You Throw Away a Prized Oil for Your Skin
Summer is around the corner (in Australia). What’s your favourite fruit during summer? For me it’s obvious: watermelon! The fruit, which belongs to the family of Cucurbitaceae, is so fresh to consume during the hot day. It does make sense, as the fruit contains (by weight) 90% water and 6% sugar. Other than that, it also has a lot of nutrients like carbohydrate, protein, fat and minerals like calcium, magnesium, iron, potassium, phosphorus and zinc; as well as vitamins like vitamin B, C and Vitamin A (due to the concentration of beta- carotene). This fruit is blessed with important natural and powerful antioxidants that is essential for our body.
When you eat watermelon, do you throw away the seeds? Me, too (of course!). But do you know that the seeds of watermelon contain prized oil for your skin? Research reported that watermelon oil is beneficial upon topical application, as it is not irritant to the skin and contains a range of fatty acids. The four major ones are linoleic acid, oleic acid, stearic acid, and palmitic acid. They are essential to maintain the skin healthy, in term of supporting normal structure and the function of the skin. Other than that, the oil has hydrating and moisturising properties to the skin; as evidenced by reduction of TEWL (trans-epidermal water loss) and the increase of moisture retention; making this oil suitable for all skin type.
Having those all benefits, it is no wonder that watermelon oil becomes popular ingredient in cosmetic industry. Due to its lightweight and cleansing properties, we use this oil as the ingredients of Super Fruit Light Moisture Cream and Natural Vitamin-C Cleansing Lotion. Have you grabbed the products and enjoy the benefits?
